The demand for energy storage continues to grow, driven by e-mobility, renewable energy, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Batteries are the key technology, as their properties – such as energy density, power output, lifetime, and weight – can be precisely tailored to different applications.

From thin-film batteries for IoT devices to high-performance lithium-ion cells and redox-flow systems for stationary storage, the requirements are diverse. One of the biggest challenges in developing next-generation batteries is stabilizing the interfaces between cell components while reducing the use of inactive materials.

Thin functional layers, essential for improving performance, are increasingly produced by vacuum deposition technologies. For thin-film batteries, vacuum coating is already the state of the art.

The HS-Group provides the expertise and customized vacuum coating systems required – from research and development to high-volume production. In close cooperation with our customers and research partners, we develop scalable solutions with a special focus on lithium-ion batteries and integrated foil drying processes.
